AM-FM Separation Using Auditory-motivated Filters - Speech and Audio Processing, IEEE Transactions on
An approach to the joint estimation of sine-wave amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) is described based on the transduction of frequency modulation into amplitude modulation by linear filters, being motivated by the hypothesis that the auditory system uses a similar transduction mechanism in measuring sine-wave FM. An AM-FM estimation algorithm is described that uses the amp...
متن کاملNovel Fourier Quadrature Transforms and Analytic Signal Representations for Nonlinear and Non-stationary Time Series Analysis
The Hilbert transform (HT) and associated Gabor analytic signal (GAS) representation are wellknown and widely used mathematical formulations for modeling and analysis of signals in various applications. In this study, like the HT, to obtain quadrature component of a signal, we propose the novel discrete Fourier cosine quadrature transforms (FCQTs) and discrete Fourier sine quadrature transforms...
متن کاملAsymptotically exact AM-FM decomposition based on iterated hilbert transform
This paper presents a multicomponent sinusoidal model of speech signals, obtained through a rigorous mathematical formulation that ensures an asymptotically exact reconstruction of these nonstationary signals, despite the presence of transients, voiced segments, or unvoiced segments. This result has been obtained by means of the iterated use of the Hilbert transform, and the convergence propert...
متن کاملA new optimization based approach to the empirical mode decomposition
In this paper, an alternative optimization based approach to the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is proposed. The principle is to build first an approximation of the signal mean envelope, which serves as initial guess for the optimization procedure. We develop several optimization strategies to approximate the mean envelope which compare favorably with the original EMD on AM/FM signals.
متن کاملImage demodulation using multidimensional energy separation
Locally narrow-band images can be modeled as two-dimensional (2D) spatial AM–FM signals with several applications in image texture analysis and computer vision. We formulate an image-demodulation problem and present a solution based on the multidimensional energy operator Fs f d k=fk2 2 f=2f . This nonlinear operator is a multidimensional extension of the one-dimensional (1D) energy-tracking ...
